The Japantown Community Benefit District Corporation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The JCBD Board acts as the governing body, overseeing the organization's operations by setting its mission, strategy, and goals, ensuring it operates in compliance with legal and ethical standards, and providing financial oversight to maintain the organization's stability and sustainability; essentially, they make high-level decisions to guide the nonprofit towards achieving its mission while adhering to legal requirements.

Per the Japantown CBD Management Plan, represent a cross section of property owners, small businesses and active community members. The goal and spirit of the board’s composition is to have a majority of property owners, but also include representatives from businesses, and governments that pay JCBD assessments. The City’s requirement is to have at least 60% of the members be property owners that pay the JCBD assessment and 20% of the membership be current business owners within the District boundary. Remaining board seat may be occupied by a member from the community or Japantown neighborhood.

The JCBD Board meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every other month, from 5:00pm. are usually held at the US Bank Community Room (located on 1st floor of the Japan Center East Mall - 22 Peace Plaza, SF). JCBD meetings are open to the public.
